TREASURE: God's Word declares that life is not measured by the amount of possessions one may have in life, nor the amount of houses or lands, one may acquire, or even the balance of one's bank accounts.  (Luke 12:15) He goes on to declare that, whatever we treasure, here on earth, is where our heart is!(Luke 12:34) And, that declaration comes with a warning! “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” (Luke 12:21 NLT) So, here are some questions for our consideration; answers to be given at the end of this look at TREASURE. * Who's TREASURE are you? * What is the TREASURE you seek? * What do you TREASURE? * Have you found the TREASURE you seek? * What are you doing with the TREASURE you have? * Who is it you TREASURE? * Where is your TREASURE? * What should we TREASURE? Definition for Treasure taken from: Merriam-Webster : something valuable (such as money, jewels, gold, or silver) that is hidden or kept in a safe place : something that is very special, important, or valuable : a person who is greatly loved or valued especially because of being very helpful Full Definition 1 a (1) : wealth (as money, jewels, or precious metals) stored up or hoarded <buried treasure> (2) : wealth of any kind or in any form : riches b : a store of money in reserve 2 : something of great worth or value; also : a person esteemed as rare or precious 3 : a collection of precious things "Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful."(1 Corinthians 4:2 NLT) "My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures." (Proverbs 2:1-4 NLT) Favorite books/movies about TREASURE: Oh Brother, Where At Thou? ("Do not seek the treasure") Treasure of Sierra Madre; Treasure Hunt; National Treasure; Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean, all wonderful stories with exciting twists and turns. The last two mentioned, has as part of the story lines, treasure buried on an island, both in a chest, one has gold in the chest and the other has a heart in a chest that is buried. We will connect these dots, again, at the end of this look at TREASURE.  TREASURE: TESTIMONY-to overcome all that may come against us...faithful to Tithe and follow The Truth. "So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God." (2 Timothy 1:8 NIV) "They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death." (Revelation 12:11 NIV) REJOICE-that our names are written in The Book of Life and we have a Refuge to run too because of Resurrection Life, in Jesus. "But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.” (Luke 10:20 NLT) "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4 NIV) ESTABLISHED-forever on a sure foundation, The Cornerstone, that's Everlasting with complete Enjoyment. "so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love," (Ephesians 3:17 NIV) "But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises." (Hebrews 8:6 NIV) ABOUNDING-in grace, mercy and love with the full Assurance that it will be Attractive to others; thereby, drawing them to Him. "The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love."(Psalm 103:8 ESV) " for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster." (Jonah 4:2b ESV) SPLENDOR-that's to be worshipped, being full of the Glory and the Holiness of The Supreme Sovereign God of all, whose Word is Sharper than anything known to mankind. "Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!"(Psalm 96:9 ESV) Honor the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. (Psalms 29:2 NLT) UNDERSTANDING-that's beyond our comprehension, Undying and Unfailing. "Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it completely." (Proverbs 28:5 ESV) "Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding," (Proverbs 3:13 ESV) RENOWN-for the legacy of great and glorious deeds/works He's accomplished through the ministry of Reconciliation and complete Restoration. "Your name, Lord, endures forever, your renown, Lord, through all generations." (Psalm 135:13 NIV) "Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts." (Isaiah 26:8 NIV) ENCOURAGEMENT-always uplifting to others, Enduring all things, following the more Excellent way. "we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory." (1 Thessalonians 2:12 ESV) "But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way." (1 Corinthians 12:31 ESV) Questions to be answered: * Who's TREASURE are you? You are The Lord's precious valued pearl! “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!"(Matthew 13:45, 46 NLT)  He gave up everything most precious to Him, in order to purchase you! * What is the TREASURE you seek? We all need to answer; Christ, with His wisdom, understanding and knowledge. "I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."(Colossians 2:2, 3 NLT) * What do you TREASURE? It very well should be, His commands and His Word. "I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food." (Job 23:12 NLT) * Have you found the TREASURE you seek? Once we've found it we should hide it in our hearts and be willing to pay or do whatever it takes in order to keep it. “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field." (Matthew 13:44 NIV) "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures."(Proverbs 24:3, 4 NIV) * What are you doing with the TREASURE you have? What we have in substance, in experience, in abilities/gifts, education, should all be brought and utilized for a noble and good purpose, in His Kingdom. Then he added, “Every teacher of religious law who becomes a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a homeowner who brings from his storeroom new gems of truth as well as old.” (Matthew 13:52 NLT) “And now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in the construction."(1 Chronicles 29:3a NLT) * Who is it you TREASURE? For our extreme benefit, it needs to be The Lord Himself, the greatest of all treasure. "In that day he will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord will be your treasure."(Isaiah 33:6 NLT) * Where is your TREASURE? If it's here on this plane, you really need to reconsider.  Here's what The Word says. “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be."(Matthew 6:19-21 NLT) what's in our heart?  Now that's the question! * What should we TREASURE? The power and very presence of a Holy God contained and residing within our weak and frail vessel; a cracked clay pot, if you will! "We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves." (2 Corinthians 4:7 NLT) also-(Job 28:10-28) Bottom line: as young Jim Hawkins, the main character in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel, Treasure Island, never gave up on seeking the buried treasure, nor did Captain Jack Sparrow, in The Pirates Of The Caribbean never give up seeking and looking for treasure, so should you allow the world to discover the hidden treasure within your own treasure island. Don't keep it hidden away any longer. Open your treasure chest, your heart, and let the unique gift that you are and that you have been given, by The King of Glory, light the world with its luminance! "This little light of mine"....
